The Boeing Business Jet was made for elegance and performance and it more than surpasses its expectations. Not for the feint of heart, or feint of pocketbook, the $45 million aircraft cruises at 541 mph, has a range of more than 7,000 miles, and can transport up to 50 passengers. However, the true calling of this aircraft is its ability to perform just as well as a full-scale mobile office or as a luxurious airborne retreat for a privileged few.

Boeing delivers its basic or "green" BBJs to its completion centers models without any avionics or interior features. Here, the transformation from flying tube to mile-high palace begins. Companies outfit the BBJs according to owners' exact specifications, building luxurious eight-passenger VIP configurations or more traditional row-by-row seating. The BBJ can include an executive suite with a queen-size bed and a private bathroom and shower, eliminating any |
concerns about cramped and sleepless intercontinental flights.
The aircraft can be transformed into a 21st Century office to include fax and videoconferencing capabilities, and the latest in wiring and communications but a business flight aboard a BBJ doesn't have to be all work and no play. The plane can also be wired for for satellite and DirecTV, while the plasma TVs and LCD screens can be placed on bulkheads and in seat backs. "The BBJ is not just a transportation tool," says Deal. "It is a tool to make an executive more productive while in flight."

The Airbus Corporate Jetliner (ACJ) continues to achieve success in the top-of-the-line business jet market, with more than 30 commitments to date.
Customers include corporations, governments and individuals. They include Aero Services Executive of France, the Al Kharafi |
group of Kuwait, DaimlerChrysler of Germany, PrivatAir of Switzerland, Qatar Airways, the Italian, French and Venezuelan Air Forces, and undisclosed clients.
More than 15 ACJs have been delivered to date and are in service in Europe and the Middle East.
The ACJ has by far the best cabin in its class, with twice the width of traditional business jets and three times the volume. Based on the A319 - part of the world's most modern and successful airliner family - the ACJ is unique in being certificated for public transport by both the American FAA and the European JAA, and in offering fly-by-wire and Category 3B autoland. Yet it costs about the same as competing top-of-the-line business jets, delivering unmatched quality and value.
In addition to the modern airframe of the A319, the ACJ features up to six extra fuel-tanks in the cargo hold for increased, intercontinental, range, a higher cruise altitude of 41,000 ft, and a richer specification that includes features such as airstairs.
These features make the ACJ a powerfully productive business tool, with the ability to meet virtually any need. The ACJ can fly 12 executives in a luxurious layout up to 6,000 nm/11,100 km, for example, enough to fly non-stop routes such as New Orleans-Geneva or London-Johannesburg. It can also carry 40 passengers in exclusive comfort up to 4,500 nm/8,300 km.
Airbus has approved six experienced outfitters for the ACJ - Air France Industries of Toulouse, Associated Air Center of Dallas, Jet Aviation of Basle, EADS Sogerma of Toulouse and Lake Charles in the USA, Lufthansa Technik of Hamburg, and Ozark Aircraft Systems of Bentonville, Arkansas. These offer a variety of cabin layouts, based on standard modules, giving customers the benefit of a choice coupled with clear specifications and prices.
ACJ customers are backed by Airbus' worldwide support and training network, complemented by a "One call handles all" service furnished by United Services, enabling them to get the best out of their investment.
